Volunteer: Dogs Day Out!You're here! Welcome to the Dogs Day Out Program. A program designed to not just get our dogs out of the shelter for a little bit, but also in hopes that they'll catch someone's eye. We ask that you keep them out at least 2 hours. But we're hoping that you keep them out the whole day and gets lots of people interested in potentially adopting them. This program is for adults 18+. If bringing children, you must be their parent or guardian and they need to be 10+ years. As best practice, we encourage you to not leave your child and the dog in the car unattended. While we're sure you may already have your favorites, we have chosen dogs who need a break from the shelter and are often overlooked, so you'll be assigned a dog. Dogs will typically be between 35 - 50 lbs., so please be comfortable with dogs of varying strength, size and temperaments. We'll supply all the necessary items for your afternoon out: A backpackLeash & car seatbeltCollapsible water bowlA list of fun, dog friendly places to go in the communityTreatsField Trip Rules: • Dogs can only be walked/handled by clients 18 years old or older. Volunteer: FosteringYou know the saying, "If you can't adopt, foster!" Never truer words have been uttered! There's a lot that goes on in a shelter; noise, traffic, barking, irregular sleep and potty breaks and that can all lead to stress on the dogs. Just the fact that they've ended up in a shelter is enough to make them overwhelmed. That's where all of you come in. Lots of our dogs are available for both short term staycations and long term fostering. Short Term Dogs that just need a little decompression from the shelter. May be as little as a week. it gives us an opportunity to find out how they are outside of a shelter environment and allows us to make better matches with potential adopters. Long Term These are dogs that may be going through medical issues or are mentally struggling from being here and would do best in the comfort of a home to heal, both mentally and physically. What we provide? The dogs are still legally ours, so it's out job to continue making sure they're cared for when they're in your care. We will provide all the food, toys, treats, kennels and medical care they'll need while they're away. And don't worry, anything comes up, we're always available! If you have even ever considered becoming a foster or maybe you'd just like some companionship for awhile, please email the foster team at foster@cuyahogacounty.us and let us answer all of your questions for you.
